The result should look like a factory finish, not a brushed-on project. That takes controlled coats and enough dry time before the doors go back on. Hardware can be reused or replaced; either way it comes off for the finish work.

When painting is the wrong answer

Painting is the wrong answer when doors are delaminating, boxes are failing, or the layout itself is the problem. In those cases replacement is honest. When the structure is sound and you simply want a lighter, cleaner kitchen, painting is the smaller project.
